Configuring eBay Settings

The eBay Settings page controls how PSS represents your stock, prices, tax and policies on eBay. This is the only place these settings are defined, and the other eBay articles link back here. Set them once during setup, before you create listings.

🎥 Insert video here: a walkthrough of each section of the eBay Settings page.

What you'll learn

  • What every setting on the eBay Settings page does
  • The values we recommend for most dealers
  • Which settings you can safely leave alone

All of these live under Settings > eBay. Click Save after making changes.

Marketplace settings

Setting What it does What to enter
eBay Site The eBay marketplace PSS lists on Fixed to eBay.com. Can't be changed.
Root Category The category tree PSS lists into Fixed to 6000 (eBay Motors). Can't be changed.
Store Name Your eBay Store name as buyers see it Must match the store name on your eBay account
Postal Code Your shipping origin, used for calculated shipping The ZIP code you ship from. If you ship from several places, use your main one.

Inventory settings

Setting What it does Recommended
Out of Stock Control Keeps a listing alive at quantity 0 when stock runs out, instead of ending it. It becomes buyable again when stock returns. On
Inventory Ceiling The most units any listing shows, whatever your actual stock. With 50 in stock and a ceiling of 5, buyers see 5 available. 4–10
Marketplace Inventory Buffer (Floor) The minimum stock a product needs to stay buyable. Below it, PSS takes the listing offline. This is your protection against overselling. 4–7. Go higher if other channels share the same stock.
Lead Time Ceiling The longest handling time PSS will allow. Products with longer lead times are taken offline. Based on what your buyers will accept
Lead Time Floor The shortest handling time PSS will ever promise, even if the product data says faster At least 1 day

⚠️ Warning: Keep Out of Stock Control on. When a listing ends, it loses its sales history, watchers and search ranking, and when it comes back it starts from zero as a brand-new listing.

Price settings

Setting What it does Recommended
Disable Pricing Stops PSS from updating prices on eBay Off, unless you use a separate eBay repricing tool
Disable Discount Pricing Stops PSS from sending strike-through sale pricing (the original price crossed out next to your price) Off
Min Price Threshold Products priced below this are never listed, or are taken offline. It catches bad data, like a $0.01 price. A small floor, such as $1.00
Max Price Threshold Products priced above this are never listed. It catches bad data, like a $999,999 price. Above your most expensive real product
Applies To Whether the thresholds check your selling price or MSRP Whichever is more reliable in your catalog

To set what you actually charge, use Pricing Rules.

Tax settings

📌 Key Point: eBay calculates, collects and remits sales tax for you in most US states. Most dealers should leave every tax setting at its default. Only change them if your accountant tells you to.

Setting What it does
Enable Tax Table Applies the tax table set up in your eBay account
Tax Shipping Includes shipping in the taxable amount
Manual Tax Jurisdiction and Rate A single state and rate. This is a legacy option from before eBay collected tax itself.

Policy settings

Setting What it does
Listing Disclaimer A short note added to every listing's item specifics, 65 characters max. For example: "Verify fitment before purchase."
Extended Holiday Returns Extends your return window over the holidays (typically November through January), which can help sales in peak season
Payment Instructions Optional text buyers see at checkout

Missing image settings

Turn on Enable Fallback Image and enter a Fallback Image URL. PSS then uses that image, usually your logo, for any product with no photos, instead of eBay's "no image available" placeholder.

💡 Pro Tip: The URL must start with https:// (eBay rejects http://), and the image should be at least 500 × 500 pixels.

Shipping locations

Setting What it does
Excluded Locations Countries or regions you won't ship to
Override Account Exclusions On: PSS's exclusion list replaces the one in your eBay account. Off: PSS uses your eBay account's list.

Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico need extra setup. See eBay Shipping Setup.
